Alexander’s Studio Newborn Session

As a newborn photographer, my goal is to have a baby who sleeps through our session. I prep my clients. I give them information. Even if parents do everything to a T, every now and then I’ll photograph a baby who has a bit of a hard time settling in the studio. This is especially true for those clients who occasionally contact me after the baby is born, instead of several weeks in advance. Thankfully, I have plenty of tools and tricks I use to help baby settle as best I can. Every once in awhile, there are those babies that don’t want to sleep, but we still get amazing imagery no matter what!

Alexander was already a week old when his mom, Charlotte, contacted me. Charlotte and David are Irish! They moved stateside about a decade ago and Charlotte told me that newborn sessions aren’t very common in Ireland. Their family still live in Ireland and Charlotte discovered she really wanted to capture this time of the 3 of them, not only for themselves, but to share with their long distance family. I was able to get this family in the studio quickly so I agreed to do a studio newborn session. I can usually accommodate newborn sessions as long as I have room in my schedule.

Alexander was still very sleepy and our photos are of him sleeping. Actually, I’m almost certain he was asleep pretty much the whole time. My goal is always to keep my newborn clients happy, whether they’re awake or asleep!

We created some absolutely adorable images with Alexander. His drowsy, dreamy demeanor made my job that much easier, too!

I loved working with this precious family! They were referrals from another client, and Charlotte also did her research on WestportMoms.com. I just love hearing that past clients recommend me as someone who’s understanding of new moms and who can make first-timers feel comfortable! But honestly, Charlotte, David, and Alexander all had such happy, go-with-the-flow attitudes. Oh! And I need to include big brother Mylo, the cockapoo. Mylo didn’t get flustered at all when dad picked him up for a photo with the whole family. Everyone rolled with the punches and it made for an amazingly delightful final gallery.

Lily – A Sweet Studio Newborn Session in Greenwich, Connecticut

Spring is nearly here, but much of life remains the same as it did about a year ago. So, a recent pandemic newborn session it is! I’m excited to share this studio newborn session captured at my Greenwich, Connecticut studio. I can always make something beautiful in my dreamy studio! I created this session for two physicians and their sweet newborn daughter, Lily. I am always so flattered when, from all the local area photographers, our healthcare heroes choose me. Mom and dad’s dusty blue colored tops really allowed their adoration for their baby girl to come through! I adored their color palette, and that nothing took away from showing off Lily.

Schedule Your Newborn Session With Karen Kahn

On dad’s face was the look every photographer wants to get from their new fathers! Can you even with the warmth of this new family? The family’s simple love shone through each image from this session. And oh my goodness, are they beautiful.

With the studio as our setting, of course we had the prettiest session. The studio has so many terrific spots for photos. I have completely fallen in love with the space and how it highlights the relationships I capture within its walls. You might not necessarily think of love when you think of a photography studio, yet here it is. Being able to capture blissful memories here means everything to me.

Thank you to Sible for her transparency about her and Luis’ work environment and for sharing a bit of Lily’s birth story with me. I really bond with moms who aren’t afraid to share those ‘in the trenches’ moments. Being able to share that in this place, with this new family, was more special than I could have ever imagined.

Lily was a perfect angel. I am incredibly happy with the moments captured of a new mother, new father, and their daughter. There’s something about the unassuming nature of the studio that doesn’t overshadow the adoration between people who love each other.

Grady – A Studio Newborn Session at Looking Up Photography’s Greenwich, Connecticut Studio

Photographing repeat clients at my studio is such a joy. This session started when mom Jess contacted me about a second session because she loved the newborn session with their first child so much! This client is wonderful, and she was happy to tell me that she booked with Looking Up Photography again due to how happy she was with her previous photos, as well as my professionalism. Such a compliment!

Celebrate your growing family with a studio newborn session!

We had a beautiful time in the studio. The client’s classic clothing choices were great, and I especially loved having Emmett in the studio again!

See Emmett’s newborn session here!

We set up in our incredible little spot, and the scene was set for a fun morning with this family. The family just enjoyed each other’s company, going with the natural flow of the session. The type of session itself leant itself to the fall and holiday vibe mom requested. It was a lovely way to spend a couple of hours! Jess and Dan were always nearby and baby Grady was in great hands. As a professional newborn photographer, safety is of the utmost importance to me, and my experience with infants was one of the reasons Jess asked me to photograph their family as they welcomed their second child!

Emmett was wonderful with his new baby brother – especially for being under two years old himself. I’m kind of obsessed with the image of Grady in his Santa-inspired outfit! That little hat – I can’t get enough of it.

The joy this family exudes is gorgeous. I love a good Greenwich studio newborn session, and I had such a blast with this family.

A Studio Newborn Session in Greenwich, Connecticut – Naina

Being a part of life’s biggest moments for families is literally my job. So yes, even when it seemed like the whole world might be closed indefinitely, in the view of the still ongoing situation, I celebrated a birth with this nearby Purchase, New York family! Whether it’s a milestone birthday, first steps, or a family reunion, each celebration is one my clients will cherish forever. This studio newborn session was for a first-time client. Pretty cool, I think!

I truly loved mom Snehi’s clothing suggestions, and I especially loved the fact that Snehi and Nikhil brought along their 5 year-old Boston Terrier/cattle dog mix, Nate. Those of you who have fur babies of your own will get a kick out of this session. I am always so inspired when pets are involved in family sessions. I say well-behaved fur babies are always welcome, and I tell my clients so!

This growing family also wanted to celebrate their Indian culture, and what better way than with a studio newborn session? In India, the name Naina is another name of the goddess Durga Maa, and it also means “beautiful eyes”. This adorable baby girl sure lives up to her name!

Her eyes, like her name, are incredibly beautiful. I LOVED that mom brought along a selection of saris to honor her heritage. In Hindu Dharma, the color red is used for auspicious occasions such as the birth of a child, marriage, and during festivals. The colors of mom’s saris served to accentuate the emotions and pride present throughout this session. I adore these touches!

Classic Studio Newborn Session – Tyler

The world may have closed indefinitely due to the current novel coronavirus pandemic, but babies are still born every day and each one is worth celebrating! This studio newborn session was for a first-time client who found me via Greenwich Moms. Pretty cool, I think!

I truly loved mom’s straightforward requests, and especially the navy color! I am so inspired by darker hues these days. I say classic colors are always welcome in the studio, and I tell my clients so for each and every session.

This couple wanted to celebrate the birth of their first human child, and what better way than with a studio newborn session?! I note “human child” because Nicole mentioned that they have a miniature goldendoodle who’s spoiled enough to probably be considered their “first child”. Hopefully Tyler’s fur-sibling has adjusted well to the new baby!

My favorite photo from this session is the image of Tyler wearing a red, white, and blue football-themed stocking cap. While themed props aren’t typically my cup of tea, it brings to mind Nicole’s sweet request for a special image for her husband, Ross, who’s obsessed with football and the Patriots. I love that this particular photograph is meaningful to dad, and I love that the visual information in the photograph tells you that story right away! Keep scrolling to see all of the details and also to see that wonderful image!

Warm Family Studio Newborn Session Inspiration – Pia

When I first started photographing families at my studio, I knew exactly what I wanted to capture in my amazing and cozy Connecticut space. Greenwich is a popular long-weekend location for other New Englanders, and most people who live in the region will find themselves here at some point. I knew I wanted to take photographs that make it look like my client families receive small-town, personalized service – because that’s exactly what they get from me. Is there anything better than having a photographer’s undivided attention? Here’s the evidence in favor!

I also want to point out that if you’re thinking of booking a studio session with me, I love the use of dad’s traditional cultural clothing in this session. When clients bring in those family heirlooms for a studio newborn portrait session, I often find that those images become their favorites, which is beautiful. The red of this garment truly emits the joy of a celebration. I’m inspired to use rich colors more often!

Now, when it came to the family, I was so flattered to have this client contact me last minute, after their daughter had been born. In her new client questionnaire, when asked how she found Looking Up Photography, mom Margaret stated that the images I take are “pure bliss.” How in the world could anyone say no to that inquiry? Thank you, Margaret. Those words will stay with me for a long time to come. I want to say, too, that adorable baby girl Pia was super easy-going and cooperative. I have no doubt that she will be brought up fabulously according to her parents’ family values of faith, love, and respect.

Cheers to new life!

Lia – Inspiring Light and Airy Family Newborn Session at the Studio

Many families love to reconnect with each other after the busyness of the holidays, so it’s only natural that photo sessions are popular this time of year. Luckily, I have some amazing inspiration for you, for the dreamiest studio newborn session at my Greenwich, Connecticut studio. If you’re planning your “first quarter” of the new year and want to plan a little treat for yourself and your family, look no further! Take a trip to Greenwich, and let’s make magic together with a beautiful late winter photo session!

Greenwich is about an hour’s drive from New York, and I love visiting “The City” with my family for our special occasions. New York City is full of surprises, and I never cease to be amazed by the fact that there is always charm to be found there, even in such a massive metropolis. As one of the oldest cities in the United States, New York is also full of history (and can be incredibly romantic). I love the cobblestone of Historic Stone Street, which is just a short 15-minute walk from the 9/11 Memorial.

Let’s start with the fact that this family are new clients. I absolutely loved meeting them and capturing their studio family newborn session. Their daughter’s name, Lia, is such a beautiful name. Paired with their sweet son’s name, Ian, and it’s a cute kids names party!

The studio setting is just gorgeous. I love finding inspiration in different nooks and crannies of my studio space, and I never get tired of it. Isn’t it pretty? And speaking of pretty, this family made perfect clothing choices for the light and airy look mom wanted. I especially loved mom’s top – such a great, classic piece!

These two siblings will obviously be close, and young Ian was very well behaved. Well behaved toddlers are a dream to work with!

Wouldn’t you love to have a photo like the one of Ian and Lia, from when you were young?! Anytime is really the perfect time to capture sweet memories. Nothing better than a cuddle with your best friend for life.

The studio is always an amazing session setting; I’d love to work with you here!

Bennett – A Simple Studio Newborn Session

Valentine’s Day is nearly here, and I can’t wait! While we may not be able to celebrate with the traditional fun, I’m ready for anything that brings about joy.

Mid-winter season seems like the perfect time to share a simple and understated session. I had the pleasure of photographing newborn studio imagery for new parents Kellie and Kenny, who found me via Yelp. Kenny is a chef – how fun is that! Kellie and Kenny love cooking together and trying out new restaurants. I’m sure Bennett is going to have an amazing and adventurous palate!

I’m excited to share this session. Take a look at some of my favorite images below!

newborn photos

One of the best things about this growing family is Kellie and Kenny’s love for travel. They even traveled to Bali and Singapore early in Kellie’s pregnancy. Kellie told me they’d be decorating the nursery with items from their travels. As such, we kept it simple for this session with their new son, with only minimal props. A neutral palette allowed the studio newborn session to purely showcase the love these new parents have for each other and baby Bennett. Kenny was absolutely smitten with his baby boy, and so attentive to both Bennett and Kellie! It was positively the best. I know this family will only grow closer as Bennett grows up.

This stage with a newborn is all about – well – new everything, and a sense of wonder at everything your baby does. Everything is exciting. As a mother to slightly older children now, it’s so fun for me to watch this in my clients. Like being a new parent all over again. I know maybe that sounds cliché, but it’s so true, isn’t it?! The feeling these images give parents of all ages.

I’d love to work with you on creating these deep emotions and fabulous memories with your growing family.

Bodie – A Light-Filled Studio Family Newborn Session

Today I’m sharing a client session I adore! I was absolutely smitten with these clients. I knew I was going to have a blast with them when mom, Kimberly, made a joke about “everyone” (mainly her husband) behaving during their session.

How cute is their little two year-old, Charlie? I swear, that child had more smiles for me than just about any toddler I’ve ever photographed! Kimberly was concerned that capturing a few special moments with baby Bodie and big brother Charlie might be wishful thinking, but just wait until you see these precious images of proud big brother. Parents, I am not above singing the PJ Masks theme song to elicit such grins from your sweet kiddos!

Although this was my first time working with this family, they are some of my new favorite Looking Up Photography clients. I hope to have more fun with this family in the future, for family photo sessions!

I’ll start with the details, like our beautiful Greenwich, Connecticut studio location. Perfectly minimal, just as mom requested! Some clients want me to bring out all the props. While my prop catalog is made up of sweet, minimal accessories, this mother wanted to keep their session as simple and intimate as possible. I’m so glad that, as new clients referred to me by past clients through a Facebook group for moms, this family absolutely trusted me as a professional. All the neutral hues the studio shows off bring an ethereal element to the images from this newborn family session. I love the pretty and unique textures brought out in the white blankets and wraps I chose for these newborn session photos. So delightful!

The classic wardrobe selections really made the family’s expressions pop, expressing such joy together!

I always have fun playing in the studio with my families. I’d love to see you for a newborn session, too!

Greenwich Photography Studio – Kaia – Newborn Photos

The holidays have come and gone, and what’s next? Valentine’s Day! This sweet holiday often goes unnoticed, but can be so much fun, and is as good as any holiday in my opinion. As a matter of fact, I’ve already been talking with upcoming clients about how we can subtly celebrate February the 14th (during their upcoming sessions, of course – I am a photographer after all). Be sure to follow me on Instagram to see all the upcoming cuteness!

Let’s Stay Connected!

This session was held right here at my beautiful studio, in Greenwich, Connecticut. You know delightful I think this setting is! I invite you to come me make magic with me at the studio. Keep scrolling for an exquisite session example.

Lots of subtle style for this session! Beginning with the adorable family. When mom used the word “serendipitously” in her client questionnaire, I knew this session was going to be extra fun for me.

I love how Hien styled herself and dad Seth. It was quite fitting that they layered neutrals and light textures for this studio newborn portrait session.

I always find myself inspired by my clients when it comes to my What To Wear Pinterest sections. I’m now thinking about soft, beautiful family style pieces for Spring 2021 ahead. Soon you’ll find these styles gracing my Pinterest Pins. So, whether you’re visiting my blog to see my incredible families or are looking to style your own family for a session, be sure you have this board bookmarked.

And how about Kaia’s precious little face? I can’t get enough.

Hien is such a gorgeous new mother, and I’m confident that Hien and Seth will remember these moments forever.

You may notice one of my favorite images (of Seth and baby Kaia), which I also used as part of my Newborn Master Photographer portfolio submission for the National Association of Professional Child Photographers!

Eselle | Greenwich Studio Newborn Session

A new year is nearly here, officially, and I can’t wait! I’ll miss all the close-knit holiday fun but I’m (hopefully) ready for what’s to come in 2021. With the new year approaching, it’s the perfect time for simple and understated sessions. I love photographing newborn photos in the studio. It can provide such an intimate setting and, free from distractions, it allows me to document such personal connections. Plus, my clients can incorporate the perfect colors to complement the nursery or other spaces in their home!

I recently had the pleasure of photographing a studio newborn session for this beautiful family. For Eselle’s portraits, Amy wanted to incorporate classic, creamy hues like beige, cream, and a subtle peachy pink. In this area of New England, you’ll find homes run the gamut in style. Some homes boast new renovations while others are perfectly preserved historical marvels. So, I love that mom stayed true to her taste and wished to keep this newborn session minimal.

Amy and Ryan’s love story began the summer before Amy started college, while working at The Maritime Aquarium. What a joy it is, hearing them laugh about that “summer fling”! Their adorable son Myles was born 4 years ago and Amy shared with me that he inspires them to live their best lives every day. This is my personal wish for everyone who reads this, this coming year!

I’m excited to share this session. Take a look at some of my favorite images below!

Greenwich Newborn Photographer | The Studio

I am thrilled to feature this studio newborn session on the Looking Up Photography blog! It is always beyond special to witness the beginning of two people becoming parents. I still have such fond memories of this time in my own family life, hanging out at home and watching life busily continue around you. Meanwhile, time seems to stand still as you take in the new life you created. Valerie and Spencer are the kind of people you can easily become instant friends with, and I was so excited to find an email in my Inbox, asking me to photograph their new addition.

Valerie and Spencer met in graduate school and have been together as a couple for almost a decade. A year ago they decided to put their roots down together and get married; they are both veterinarians!

Valerie and Spencer chose this time to hire me as a professional photographer to mark this special occasion because Valerie really wanted some newborn photos to have as a keepsake, as well as to create an heirloom album and wall prints. Of course, she noted that the grandparents would need photos as well!

Valerie planned the colors and clothing for this session around Blake’s nursery colors, while keeping in mind the family’s modern but comfortable décor and home aesthetic. The couple kept their outfits simple, which is a classic choice.

My favorite part of this session was that I was able to capture the imagery Valerie requested, bringing to life the specific color stories she wanted included in Blake’s newborn photos. I had such a great time with Blake and her lovely parents, too.

I always keep in mind that families may want their images to be seen by family and friends. Photographs from our session will probably be displayed on walls and holiday cards alike. Clients love to create keepsake photo books with the images from our sessions together so that their children have something tangible to look at and hold dear to when they’re older. And, if family and friends tell you that you ‘win’ when it comes to the best photos and holiday cards, we all know how nice that feels!

It was a joy to see how their darling girl, Blake, lights up their lives. Valerie and Spencer were both clearly enjoying that magical ‘newborn bubble’ time, and their peaceful session left an impression on me long after I packed up my camera and closed the studio for the day. I’m so glad that this couple found me as the photographer that was just right for their growing family. Valerie, Spencer, it was truly an honor helping you to celebrate your new life as a family of three!

Hudson the Lion | Connecticut Newborn Photography

Every parent should have a healthy sense of pride in their child. We can’t help wondering who our newborns will grow up to be, what they’ll do, and how they’ll change the world, and it only adds to the wonderful journey of growing as a family. I was especially excited for Hudson’s session, as I already had the pleasure of meeting and working with his wonderfully creative parents in his big sister Juliet’s newborn session years back.

Shirley and Alex wanted to build on Juliet’s session style, but make it more personalized for Hudson: “I really love the style photos you did last time for Juliet,” Alex says, “Only instead of pink we can do gold. Hudson will be a Lion. A leader. Something epic would be cool.” With a white, gray, and gold color palette and a strong theme in mind, we brainstormed to create the perfect session for Hudson, and I loved what we came up with.

For our first scene in the studio, we swaddled baby Hudson in white, and gently laid him on a bed of wispy and furry fabrics, to create a textured backdrop to play off his smooth, gorgeous skin tone. It was the perfect scene to get some closeups, capturing his tiny details and strong, handsome features and itty bitty toes.

Next, we posed this precious little boy on a gray backdrop, with a cozy blue-knit nightcap, to emphasize this silent, sleepy moment. Hudson was a little angel in this session, and I couldn’t take enough shots of this cute, sleeping baby. One of the highlights of the shoot was Hudson surrounded by gold. I loved the atmosphere of the scene, where Hudson was laid in a basket of soft, white fabrics, surrounded by gold flakes, giving it an epic, powerful feel.

Some of my favorite shots from this session were of the whole family. It’s been such a joy to watch this wonderful family grow, and an even greater joy to capture their love for each other. Juliet has gotten so big, and you can tell how much she loves being a big sister to Hudson. We got some individual shots of Hudson with his big sister, with Alex, and with Shirley. We also got some natural shots of this gorgeous family just being themselves, making memories they’ll cherish for years to come. With all of the love that they have to give, I know that Hudson is going to really enjoy being a part of this amazing family.

First Moments of Love | Greenwich Newborn Photographer

There’s something wonderful in the smile of a new parent. As if, with the new arrival of their first precious baby, their smile gets just a little bit bigger than before as their child experiences its first moments of love. Being able to see these smiles in newborn sessions is one of my favorite parts of the job, so it was a joy to work with Jaci and Brian in their newborn session.

Their first child, Nash – the cutie that you’ll see in the photos below – was a perfect angel in the session, and I loved the chance to brainstorm the theme and style of this newborn session with his parents. We decided on a classic color palette of blues and greys, and it was the perfect choice for this precious little one.

My studio in Greenwich, where we had the newborn session, is packed full with props, accessories, fabrics, and backdrops to use in the shoot, and we made good use the grey fabrics to supply a textured backdrop for Nash. We swaddled him up in blue, and his gorgeous skin tone popped out brilliantly against the grey bed of fabrics. I loved taking some close-up shots of Nash’s handsome details. Because babies grow up so quickly, you want to remember how tiny they once were, so I made sure I got that tiny nose, fingers, and toes beautifully captured for Jaci and Brian to remember forever.

Their love story started about 9 years ago, when they met in Newport, Rhode Island while away for the weekend (Jaci was living in Cos Cob, while Brian was living in NYC), and have since tied the knot, being married for 4 years and counting! Their journey together has been only happier since they’ve welcomed Nash into their family, and I was privileged to capture this joy in some shots with Brian and Jaci holding their beloved new member of the family.

Technically, their first child was their maltipoo, and they were right – he’s a great poser! You can see for yourself in the picture with all four of them in the shot, which is one of my favorite pictures to date. You can tell just from Jaci and Brian’s smiles that Nash has been welcomed into a loving and happy home, soon to be filled with the precious memories of his first moments of love.

Cute and Cozy | Connecticut Newborn Photographer

I felt so happy after this newborn session! Working with mom Kristina, her mother Lisa, and her handsome baby Luca was such a fun time in the studio.

Kristina decided to go with a palette of white and denim blue, with some classic props to make for a timeless atmosphere. We wanted the set to feel cozy, and casual, and looking at how peaceful Luca was during the session I think we were able to create just that!

We started by swaddling Luca up in a soft blue fabric, with an airy, knit cap, and we laid him on a bed of white textured fabrics . I loved the contrast that came from the blue on the white, as if Luca were a blue drop in an ocean of white. We wanted to capture every detail of his profile, from the tiny eyelashes, to his button nose, to his teeny tiny toes. These are the kinds of details that will vanish before you know it as the baby gets bigger, so I loved the chance to give them special attention in this session.

I especially loved the pictures with mom, Nana, and Luca in the spotlight. We took some individual shots, with just mom and Luca, or Lisa and Luca, and I loved how those turned out. You can see the wonderful love that Kristina has for her little one, proud to show him off as she can’t help but smile for the camera. You could tell that Lisa was Kristina’s mom just from the loving way that they both cradled Luca, holding him close. We finished off the session by getting the trio in the shot, and it was amazing being able to capture three generations in one image. You wouldn’t have believed that so much love could fit into just one picture!

A Dreamy Session | Greenwich Newborn Photography

Ever since I first met this gorgeous family, I knew we’d have a great session. Baby Taylor looked so dreamy throughout her session, and mom Stephanie and Dad Kevin were all smiles as they were able to take a break and gaze at their beautiful new daughter. I had the pleasure of brainstorming and organizing the shoot with Taylor’s parents, and I loved the result of putting our minds together.

For this newborn session, we wanted to do a mixture of formal shots and candid shots, with a palette of light pinks, white, and spring greens. We kept the wardrobe simple and classic, with floral headbands, swaddles, and ruffle bottoms. I loved adding in a circular floral arrangement digital backdrop for the first scene, full of pink flowers, dark green leaves, and a white fur center for Taylor to lay in, blissfully asleep.

We swaddled her up in a white knit blankie next, with a white floral headband to crown Taylor as we laid her on a white backdrop. She dreamed away as we posed her for the camera, lost in a white sea, looking as cute as a button. I especially loved finding the perfect lighting for the scene, creating a soft glow around this precious newborn while giving her features plenty of light to see every little detail, like those cute little feet and tiny toes.

For a different scene, we used spring green blankets, and filled a cute wood box from the studio’s props. Taylor was snug and comfy in the soft fabrics. I loved the color scheme of this scene, with the earthy tones and Taylor’s lovely skin tones blending into the perfect image. We finished off the session by getting mom and dad in front of the camera, lovingly cradling Taylor in her pink swaddle. You can tell by the size of their smiles how much they enjoy holding their precious little one!

There’s not a cuter sight than two wonderful parents gazing down together at their little girl, filled with the love and joy only parents can have. It’s a sight you’ll want to capture forever, and now Stephanie and Kevin can look back on this gorgeous moment forever!

Forever Moments | Greenwich Newborn Photography

Memories are some of the most valuable things that we can take with us wherever we go. They’re treasures stored up in our minds, that we can revisit and feel some of the same love and joy that we did in that special moment. It’s no wonder then that Ashley and Jacob wanted to capture as many of these special moments in their little one’s life as they could! Their firstborn, Lily May, looked gorgeous in her newborn session, and my studio in Greenwich turned out to be the perfect place to capture so many great forever moments.

Mom and dad wanted a simple, classic look to the session, and chose a lovely palette of pinks and grays. We started off the session by swaddling Lily May up in a soft, pink fabric, with a lacy, pink bonnet covering her head. The backdrop was different shades and different textures of grays, from fur to fabric, acting as the cushiest bed for this precious one to pose on. We got some wonderful close-ups of her cute little button-nose profile, and her tiny fingers and toes.

As the session went on, I noticed Ashley and Jacob lovingly gazing at Lily May, trying their best to imprint every single detail into their memory. These special moments when a child is still small, totally dependent, and overwhelmingly cute go so quickly! Once we finished the first scene, we got mom and dad in front of the camera. Ashley and Jacob met 15 years ago, when they first bumped into each other at their alma mater, Johns Hopkins. They’ve been in wedded bliss for six years, and are so excited to live life as a family of three!

We took some individual shots of both mom and dad with their little one, where both parents were brimming with joy as they held Lily May in their arms. Then we got the whole family in front of the camera for one of our last, and for one of my favorite pictures. Ashley, Jacob, and Lily May together radiate with love and happiness, and I’m certain that Lily May is going to love growing up with such wonderful parents!

Now, Ashley and Jacob have all these forever moments to look back on, with every little detail perfectly preserved. If you want to capture the precious memories in your life, contact me here to book your session today!

Covid-19 Photography Studio Policies

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont signed an executive order that requires all “non-essential” businesses to shut down through May 20th. Therefor the studio is closed until May 20th.

Here are the studio policies and procedures moving forward in consideration of the COVID-19 disease.

These guidelines are borrowed from Katie McCarthy at Little Moments photography, who is both a newborn photographer/business owner, as well as a practicing Registered Nurse for the past 9 years.

The information found here is based on CDC recommendations, and adheres to the guidelines of the three-phased approach presented by the federal government.

When deciding to reopen my studio and resuming operations, I will be following the State of Connecticut’s regulations and ensure that my business can meet the appropriate guidelines outlined here: https://www.whitehouse.gov/openingamerica/

At Looking Up Photography, I make client safety my number one priority. My day-to-day studio operations have been adjusted to maintain a safe and sanitary environment. My plans for the first stage of reopening the studio are as follows.

COVID-19 STUDIO POLICIES
• Studio availability is limited to Maternity, Newborn and Baby photography only. Family sessions will take place outdoors, weather permitting and when the parks and beaches are reopened.
• Only the parents and the child being photographed will be allowed in the studio during the session. No extended family members will be permitted. Additionally I ask that siblings not be present during your newborn session. A family member may bring siblings for a family photo at the beginning of the session.
• Family members entering the studio will be asked to participate in a screening process.
• Temperature checks will be conducted upon arrival. Anyone with a temperature of 100 or lower will be allowed to enter the studio.
• I require shoes off at the door.
• I (the Photographer) will wear a cloth mask at all times. Masks will also be available for purchase for parents if they would like to wear one.
• Multiple sanitizer stations will be available throughout studio, as well as a bathroom for hand washing.
• Please bring your own prepackaged snacks/drinks.
• Standard cleaning precautions before and after every individual session will include: cleaning high touch surfaces such as doorknobs, phones, etc., laundering studio fabrics, emptying and sanitizing trash receptacles, cleaning and disinfecting the bathroom.
• Professional cleanings on a weekly basis.

I look forward to inviting you back into the studio and providing you with a safe space to capture your Precious Moments!

Savoring the Precious Moments | Connecticut Newborn Photographer

The anticipation of a brand new baby is something that just cannot be replicated with any other experience in life. It is a mix of excitement, nervousness, and pure joy. That is why being a newborn photographer is something I truly love and am passionate about. Getting to be there for the incredible families I get to serve is something I never take for granted, even on the long days…my clients bring me such joy!

Nicole and John are parents who recently welcomed a baby girl. They are first-time parents, so they experienced all the fresh emotions and joy of becoming a parent. These two met at work, and have been together for a joyous six years, and have been married for three of those. They were thrilled to find out they were expecting their new little miss, and she is simply perfect. Mom shared that she had purchased this “Hello, I’m new here” onesie, so we made sure to include that in some of these images. We also worked together to design a customized shoot that included their personal style, which Nicole describes as, “very classic, not super trendy”. I always seek to incorporate the desires of the families that I work with, so that their images reflect their personalities, and look beautiful on the walls of their home. I ask what their home style is as well, so that the images are truly usable and are going to be enjoyed for generations to come. Because Nicole described their home, their haven, as “minimalistic with modern touches and lots of neutrals”, we kept the photos in that vein.

When looking for a newborn photographer, it’s so important to know what you’re needing. For this sweet trio, they were seeking someone who would be very patient, and who would give specific directions as far as posing or styling. I love walking my clients through every aspect of their session that they may be uncertain of, and it means so much that they trust me. Nicole found me on an online list of newborn photographers, and we clicked right away! They planned to turn these images into products like an heirloom album, wall print, and announcements about their precious new addition!

If you are looking for a newborn photographer, I would love to welcome you and your sweet babe into my studio and capture these fleeting moments for you. Just contact me here!

Enjoy!

Celebrating the Gift of New Life | Connecticut Newborn Photographer

I love the excitement that comes through my studio’s doors. Whether they’re new parents, a single parent, or parents on their ninth child, there always is an incredibly contagious excitement at the arrival of new life in their family. In this case, Marc and Samantha are capturing the new life of their first child, a beautiful little girl named Noa. I loved every minute of their session!

When planning out the session with mom and dad, we landed on a color palette of creams, and two kinds of pink – pale, and peachy pink. Marc and Samantha’s vision for their session was for it to be simple, and to have a classic feel to it. One special request was for Noa to be in a tiny pink tutu, and we made it happen!

For the first scene, I carefully swaddled little Noa up in a pink fabric, and laid her on an assortment of fabrics and furs. I loved playing with the textures, and matching the colors to suit this precious little one’s lovely skin tone. Topping off the scene was a small flower headband, and Noa’s gorgeous features. We got close-ups of her tiny fingers and itty-bitty toes as she peacefully slept. We played around with this scene for a little while, removing other textures and loosening the swaddle to get the full range of pictures that mom and dad wanted to capture.

Marc and Samantha have been together for 10 years, meeting a decade ago in a Verizon store. It was love at first sight, and their journey of love led them to getting married in June of 2018. As soon as they got hitched they wanted to start a family, and their desire turned into reality when they brought Noa into the world, even though there were some bumps along the way. They dearly wanted to capture this special time, and celebrate the gift of new life that they were given!

I love making the newborn the center of attention in the session. For one scene, we gently laid Noa into a circle of white fabrics and materials, which was surrounded by dark green leaves. The pop of pink in the center brings the eye right to the beautiful baby, and it’s one of my favorite shots from the session. Better yet, though, is the picture of Noa in her tutu. The ruffled, tulle material paired perfectly with the driftwood basket, and the soft, white pillow Noa laid on completed the setting.

I loved capturing mom and dad holding their beloved little one in the session. With their smiles brimming with joy and excitement, they held Noa close while I captured moments that they will treasure forever. This wonderful family knows the precious gift of new life, and I am so happy that I had the pleasure of turning their joy into a keepsake that they can hold for years to come!

Capturing That Special Moment | Greenwich Studio Newborn Photography

It was a special time in the studio with this wonderful family. When I first heard from Taryn and PJ, the excited buzz in their voices was contagious, and I couldn’t wait to meet their first child. And just like Taryn and PJ, as soon as I laid eyes on their baby boy, Paul, I just couldn’t get enough of him! His newborn session in my Greenwich studio was such a fun time, with such lovely people.

Mom and dad chose a wonderful neutral palette, with greys and creams, and it worked out beautifully in Paul’s session. For one of the first scenes, we wrapped him up in a thin grey blankie, complete with sleeping cap. I laid him down on a white pillow, as soft as a cloud, and we got some wonderful shots. Of course, one of those shots was his cute little feet, with his tiny toes frozen by my camera, free from the effects of time.

Mom and dad moved back to Cos Cob after Taryn started teaching art at the elementary school in Greenwich, while her husband works at a consulting company in Stamford. They met all the way over in NYC, at their “favorite watering hole”: Dorrians, on the Upper East Side. This is their first, and the moment they met Paul, they fell head-over-heels for him. He’s the fourth Paul John in his family lineage, carrying the name into a new generation.

For another scene, I laid Paul on a thick, dark grey knit blanket, and his tiny smile showed us how photogenic he already is! We also laid him in a gray-brushed wood box, on top of a gray pillow with a sleeping cap to match. His parents love lacrosse, so we included the lacrosse stick as a special prop. I love getting creative with the parents, as they always have such wonderful ideas, and I love making the session more personal and true to who they are.

Finally, we got everyone in the shot – in their pajamas! They all had matching outfits, and it was one of my favorite moments from the whole session. The pure joy that Taryn and PJ have for their boy was a beautiful thing to witness and capture. The nuzzling of noses and the loving gazes are frozen in time forever, to be forever enjoyed by this gorgeous family. I love that they will always be able to look back on these precious, special moments and remember all of the wonderful memories they made on the way. They’re sure to make plenty of those with their new little one!

Waiting Patiently | Connecticut Newborn Photography

In my sessions with families, I love to get to know them and what they value. So many families, if not all, value love, honesty, respect, and quality time spent together. Some will go further, valuing the practice of waiting patiently for things. This lovely family goes that extra distance, and has been waiting so patiently for their little one to arrive. I loved capturing the whole family’s joy in their newborn session!

Meet William George, a bundle of love who’s adored by his parents, Todd and Katrina, and his older sister, Victoria. Mom says there was quite a spread between the two siblings, eight years to be exact, and that they’ve been waiting a long time for William. For his session, we decided on a beautiful color scheme, with whites, grays, and blues. William’s parents wanted to keep his studio session classic and simple, and I think with mom and dad’s help I think we got what we wanted!

For one scene, I swaddled William up in a soft, antique blue wrap and laid him on a bed of grey furs and fabrics. With years of experience, I was able to keep William calm and sleepy while I gently posed him for the scene. His handsome profile was the star of the scene, capturing his tiny lips, itty bitty fingers, and kissable toes with my camera. Fast asleep, William enjoyed his debut in front of the lens!

His parents met over 15 years ago at work, and they’ve been smitten ever since. Eight years ago they had their first baby, Victoria, who dearly loves her little brother. She’s quick to share some of her favorite things with her brother, like songs from Disney or Kids Bop, and things that make her laugh like jokes and tickles. She was a dream in the session, carefully holding her sibling close as she smiled wide for me.

As I’m sure you’ve heard me say time and time again, some of my favorite pictures from a session are where the whole family gets in the shot. There’s just an energy filled with love, joy, excitement, and so many great feelings that I look forward to capturing it every time. This lovely family had this energy and more, and they couldn’t help but smile the whole time. It’s no wonder they’re so happy, they’ve been waiting a long time for a family of three to be a family of four.

If you want to capture beautiful moments like these in your own family, contact me here and we’ll get you booked for a session!

Enjoy!

A Family’s Love | Stamford, Connecticut Newborn Photography

I love seeing so many different, loving families come through my studio. They come in all different shapes and sizes, and their excitement at their newborns or their quickly growing toddlers is something that I love to capture. I was blessed to meet Cory and Jenny, 21-month-old Ava, and their precious little man, Aiden. This gorgeous family has showered so much love on Aiden, that it’s no wonder he was smiling in his newborn session!

For Aiden’s session, mom and dad wanted to focus on just this happy little boy as he is. His wonderful personality was surrounded by a palette of grey and blue in one scene, and cream and white in another. I loved swaddling him up tight in blue, and gently laying him on a furry bed of the grey fabrics and textures. We got a close-up view of his tiny little fingers and his handsome profile, and of course, we got a shot of his little toes, forever frozen in time as he grows.

Jenny and Cory, met in New York City through mutual friends, and have been together for about eight years now. They moved to Stamford about three years ago, and both of them work in the city. Some of their favorite things to do are vacations or quiet weekends together as a family. Aiden was warmly welcomed into their family, and I loved getting creative with mom and dad in planning out his session. For another scene, we wanted a rustic feel, so we laid the precious boy on a soft, white pillow. We put a cream and white stocking cap on him, and got the cutest picture of him sleeping on top of it all. We caught a few pictures of him awake, with his gorgeous eyes, and his parents now have a whole set of pictures that keep their baby boy from growing up so quickly.

This beautiful boy comes from a lovely family that I had the pleasure of working with and getting to know. With how much they love this new addition to their family, I know Aiden is in wonderful hands.

Beauty in Simplicity | Greenwich Newborn Photographer

Happiness looks good on Sandra and Andrew. This lovely couple recently welcomed their gorgeous little girl, Taylor, into the world, so it’s no wonder that they can’t help but smile! Sandra and Andrew’s love story started 9 years ago, when they met through mutual friends, and you can see that that love has only grown over the years.

The couple chose one of my Belly To Baby packages, since this is their firstborn, and they wanted to be sure to capture their sheer joy of anticipating this major life event, as well as celebrate the arrival of baby Taylor.

For Sandra’s maternity session, we visited Greenwich Beach (aka Tod’s Point), and I loved the shots that we were able to get there. The couple was a little shy about being in front of the camera, but as we spent time together on the coast, everyone was relaxed and the results were stunning! There was a beautiful simplicity to the session; the outfits were minimalist, the colors blended well, and there was a pure joy that radiated throughout every moment. This expecting couple made it a fabulous day.

Then we met Taylor, who is herself a bundle of joy! We wanted to keep the newborn studio session simple and classic, so we focused on natural poses, neutral colors, and made Taylor the center of the session. I love the accent of the white bow on her headband, as it draws the attention up to her overwhelmingly cute face and all of her tiny features. For one scene, we gently laid her on a sea of fabrics, and got a close-up of her profile, especially that little button nose of hers. Sandra asked if we had any seasonal props to use in the session, like stockings or caps to make things more festive. Of course, the studio had a whole selection of props that included this wonderful little Santa knit cap, and I can’t get over how adorable it looks on Taylor!

Seeing Taylor held in her loving parent’s arms is an experience that I cherish, and I loved capturing these special moments for mom and dad. Sandra and Andrew are both so excited to be a family of three now, and I’m honored that they chose me to capture some of the most special memories in their life.

The Journey of Motherhood | Greenwich Maternity Photographer

Words can’t express how full of joy I was watching my dear friend Michal on her journey of motherhood. Thanks to this blog, you also were able to see her first maternity session with me, her first daughter as a newborn, and now her maternity and newborn sessions with her second daughter. I love looking back through all of the pictures, and remembering all the laughs and good times that we had during these sessions. Michal is a lovely soul, a strong single mother, and the best parent that these little girls could have!

Michal is from White Plains, and is a math tutor. She’s also one of the most creative people I know, and has the most lovely singing voice! I can only imagine the wonderful lullabies these girls get to hear while they fall asleep. For Michal’s maternity session this time, we went to Greenwich Beach, and I loved the symbolism there. With the landscape behind her, and the endless ocean in front, it represented all of the ground that she’s already covered, and the limitless future that her and her girls have. The colors were gorgeous; I loved her fuchsia dress with the flowing sleeves blowing in the sea breeze. I especially loved capturing the moments with her and her daughter exploring the beach together, navigating the sandy shores hand in hand.

Her precious little newborn’s studio session turned out wonderful as well. The color scheme that Michal and I worked out involved a gorgeous range of warm pinks, alongside a contrast of deep blues. Among a bed of reds and pinks, this pretty little girl lie fast asleep without a care in the world, and let me pose her to get a great variety of pictures. I loved gazing at her beautiful profile, as well as her tiny fingers and toes. The second scene found her gently laid in a basket, wide awake and surrounded by an ocean of blue with white polka dots. This little girl and her beautiful mamma together was a cuteness overload. The same is true of the picture with both sisters, as older sis smiled as wide as she could to show how happy she is to be an older sibling.

My favorite pictures from the session, though, are with all three together as a whole family. The journey to motherhood wasn’t easy, but I know Michal is loving every second of it. I loved every second of these sessions, and these girls have the best mother around!

Double the Fun | Connecticut Newborn Photographer

It’s not everyday that a photographer gets to take pictures of newborn twins! For me, it makes the entire session double the fun, because you get to capture double the joy on the faces of the parents, as well as design a unique shoot centered around both of the twins’ budding personalities. Mom and dad (Kim and Michael) have spent 4 years of bliss together, and have a 17-month-old son Thomas, alongside their boy-girl twins, Grace and Joseph.

Grace and Joseph are two of the most gorgeous babies you’ll see, and I loved the opportunity to get them in front of my lens! We decided on a color palette of whites, creams, and gold, and I loved incorporating these lovely colors into the session in my studio. It gave me the chance to use gold leaves, surrounding the newborns in the wicker basket with the colors of fall and winter. We wrapped them up tight in white; Grace was wrapped in a lacier fabric with a floral pattern and a flowery headband, and Joseph with a solid and cozy fabric.

We got close-up shots of their cute, tiny features. I especially love the shot with the two of them holding each other – there’s nothing more precious! We brought out the golden cream fur, and gently laid the twins one by one on it and got some shots of them individually. It was so fun looking at the two of them side by side and trying to find all the differences. You can tell them apart, but just barely! It was even more fun to have Thomas in the session, what with his joy in being a big brother to two siblings.

All of a sudden, a family of three became a family of five, and it was wonderful to capture the whole lot of them in this newborn session! Mom and dad were overjoyed to hold their babies in their arms, with Thomas between them. Grandma Viet joined in, and I do love the picture with her holding her swaddled grandchildren in her arms. I was able to capture so many precious moments for this beautiful family, and they are so happy to have these moments hung up in their home for everyone to enjoy!

Love from Around the World | Greenwich Newborn Photography

I love to hear the story of how a couple met. Even after hearing hundreds of unique and beautiful stories, I never get tired of listening to the two of them retrace the steps of their love story. It’s amazing to think that, if one of those steps never happened, the two of them might never have met, and I’d never be able to capture their joy as they hold their newborn in their arms. This would be the case for Adriana and Doug if Adriana never moved to the U.S. from Hong Kong, where she was born and raised until coming to Connecticut. Today, Adriana and Doug are married, live in Greenwich, and have a 4-year-old boy, Quin, and a precious newborn boy, Dylan. I had the joy of capturing them all in my studio!

We started the newborn session by carefully placing their little one in a basket, padded with white, furry fabrics and wrapped him in a mint green blankie. We decided on a palette that included greens in this session, and I loved how it accented their gorgeous newborn’s complexion. I loved getting some close-up shots of his cute face, with his button nose and his tiny fingers all snuggled up. Of course, we couldn’t resist getting a picture of his precious little feet. They reminded me of how much of a privilege it is to capture these wonderful moments for parents, and to ‘freeze’ their baby in time. I love giving them the gift of remembering all of the tiny details of their children when they were small!

Some of my favorite moments in this session were the ones with the whole family. Mom, dad, and big brother all got in the shot with baby Dylan, and you could see the excitement and joy barely contained in their smiles. Quin was a bundle of energy, and you could tell that he already loved being a brother! One of the many blessings in this session was grandpa and grandma joining everyone. We weren’t sure if schedules would line up with the grandparents’ visit from Hong Kong, but in the end everything aligned and grandma and grandpa got to hold their newest grandchild in their arms. This precious newborn is loved from around the whole world!
