Newborn Photography Greenwich – Baby Logan

Sandra, Logan’s mom, wanted to have a family newborn photography session so that she could look back on these images and cherish this special time forever. In her client survey, she shared with me how she wanted poses similar to and would complement the maternity and newborn imagery from big sister Taylor’s sessions.

As soon as baby Logan entered my studio, I fell completely in love with my business all over again.

When I first learned that Sandra and her husband Andrew selected me to photograph the newest addition to their family once again, I was totally thrilled. After the challenges I faced as a photographer due to COVID, it was a welcome relief to see a ‘repeat’ family. Sandra made some photo orientation suggestions so that the photographs from this session could complement a family portrait and solo newborn portrait of Taylor already on display on a gallery wall in their home.

Even with the bulk of the coronavirus pandemic hopefully behind us, there’s always an element of nerves when it comes to scheduling sessions these days. But as a professional photographer, it’s so important not to worry and to know that what will be will be. There is always hope in the world and we have to trust in the universe’s timing – not ours. My smallest clients are the most amazing proof of this.

Sure enough, this family newborn photography session went off without a hitch. These days, I almost cry with joy every time I have the honor of culling and editing another session. I have also had the best time adding to my newborn photography accessories collection. After all, who doesn’t love seeing a newborn baby in a basket (or a basin, in this case)?! It’s just so much fun.

The moment we placed big sister Taylor and baby brother Logan together, I could feel the rush of love Sandra and Andrew have for their little ones. Having children can be like falling in love all over again as parents’ hearts sync with their new baby. Looking forward, I hope to see this beautiful and healthy family again for some family portraits. Seeing my tiny clients grow up is a dream come true.

Newborn Photography Connecticut – Baby Navy

Navy’s mother, Samantha, shared that it was her previous experience with Looking Up Photography that brought her and her growing family back into the studio for a second family newborn session. Their family values “someone who takes great photos and makes you feel at ease”, which is such a compliment to me. Samantha told me that she enjoyed everything about our last session together, and that the photos she has from big sister Noa’s newborn session are some of her favorite photos of their family. Even in the studio, I could see baby Navy living up to the strength of his powerful name. Samantha wanted the same bonding experience she had during Noa’s newborn photo session and I was thrilled to deliver that for her. Now the family can look back at both sets of photos and admire their family’s fortitude and resilience.

If you’re a parent yourself, you know that adding another child to the family will forever change it. Parenthood may be more of a guessing game than we would all care to admit, but something we never have to guess about is how our hearts are always capable of giving out more love. New parenthood is physically and emotionally exhausting, and that experience is only intensified by COVID.

It is my hope that this time together as a family, in my studio, made this family’s love for Navy and each other stronger. It was a celebration, after all!

With the family photos, I tried to capture this family’s sweet dispositions and easygoing natures. Family is a treasure and it is so important for everyone to have photos to show just how special their family is.

Merritt – A Studio Session at Three Weeks

I was so excited to shoot this last-minute newborn session in Greenwich, Connecticut at the Looking Up Photography studio. This family contacted me a couple of weeks after baby was born. They came to me because Merritt is their third child and they realized that they hadn’t commissioned newborn portraits for their other two children. They wanted to be sure Merritt had imagery to celebrate his birth, his natural sweetness as a newborn, and also his unique appearance. They contacted me and we captured Merritt’s newborn imagery all over the course of a week. Although I always recommend reaching out to me as soon as possible, when you’re expecting to welcome a new baby into your home, I love accommodating these sessions when I am able to. With any luck, we get perfect, sleepy poses with access to all of my props, swaddles, newborn outfits, and accessories … and … we can usually capture baby when they’re a little more alert. Eyes-open shots sometimes become some of my favorites, and they’re always beautiful!

Perfect Merritt. Alert and so very interested in what’s happening around him.

We got to capture a variety of setups. Here is sweet Merritt modeling one of my favorite caps. Just look at those tiny details. I also love how it contrasts with the chunky knit of the blanket he’s snoozing on.

I love it when I’m able to get so much variety out of my setups. Many times, I focus on 2-3 prop displays and am able to produce a full and diverse gallery from those looks. I have been known to photograph from dozens of angles simply because I am especially inspired by the props or because my little subjects are so captivating.

Thank you, baby Merritt, for a fabulous session. You were a dream!

Judah’s Studio Newborn Session

If you’re expecting a baby, or already a parent and looking for a newborn, maternity, or family photographer, I would love to work with you to create images you’ll love for a lifetime. You can also give sessions with me as a gift, which is exactly what my friend Susan Isaak did. Susan is a real estate salesperson in town, and she purchased a newborn session as a gift for her clients. What a gift!

As a professional newborn photographer, my goal is, of course, to have a baby who sleeps through the duration of the session! I prep my clients in detail before their session. Partners can switch off this ‘duty’ while the other gets ready for the session. Parents can also try to feed the baby 30-45 minutes before their session time, so we’re almost guaranteed that there will be a good diaper change before the session! If mom is breastfeeding, it’s best to avoid drinks and food that can give baby gas before session time.

Even if parents follow this advice perfectly, every now and then I’ll have a baby who has a harder time getting settled. As a professional newborn photographer, you know I have a few tools and tricks I use to help settle baby. Still, there’s always a chance that the baby just doesn’t want to sleep. In those cases my job is to put parents at ease so that we can all roll with the punches and I can deliver an absolutely beautiful final gallery. Whether baby is asleep or awake, my goal is always to keep everyone happy.

An awake newborn was not my experience with Judah, who was just the most perfect little subject. I’m pretty sure he was asleep the whole time!

Judah loved to stretch, and wiggle his arms and toes out of the swaddles, which made for some absolutely adorable images. It also made my job of snapping photos of his little toes that much easier!

Danielle and Carl were incredibly calm and had a go-with-the-flow attitude. I loved working with this precious family!
