Newborn Baby Emelia – A Classic Studio Session with the Family Dog!

I have been so excited at the thought of sharing this classic yet fun family studio newborn session! This session is proof that inspiration can come from anywhere (even the family dog). I loved this amazing family and the fact that mom Jackie wanted to include their small dog in the shoot. I always want to celebrate how special my client families are – and that includes fur babies! This shoot showcases whites and neutrals mixed with subtle textures. It’s one of my favorites from this spring! Check out the stunning photos and see how gorgeous newborn sweetheart Emelia is …

Check out this classic setup! I’m happy to say I believe I nailed Jackie’s vision here, with the different white textures. Although I’m always happy to incorporate more props and details, I also love keeping things simple. With all the attention on Emelia, you just know how special she is going to be! I’m also excited to see how Jackie and Christian decide to display these images in their hallways and master bedroom.

On to another beautiful setup! Can you tell I’m happy to oblige a request for textured neutrals in the studio?! This amazing blanket – I’m just obsessed with the subtle patterns it creates and the touch of warmth it gives Emelia’s photos.

How fabulous is this setup? I really love all of the textures, and subtle use of color. And don’t get me started on exquisite Emelia’s pouty little mouth! She is such a terrific subject, which of course helped the pictures from this session turn out especially amazing!

The Sweetest Studio Newborn Session for Baby Ezra and His Parents

Baby season is a thing, and it’s upon us, friends! I have photographed so many newborns in the past few months! And let’s be honest – there isn’t anything that brings people together quite like an adorable new babe. I’m sharing a recent, spring studio newborn session to show you just some of the amazing memories a studio newborn session at Looking Up Photography can offer you. I have everything from the big, showstopping props, to the sweet and minimal pieces featured in this newborn session. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at all this cuteness!

1120 Looking Up Photography

I love the colors mom Sarah chose for a neutral newborn session. Touches of gray, and shades of blue made for the perfect color scheme. Of course, my natural studio lighting helped me achieve all this gorgeousness. At Sarah’s request, I kept everything very simple, with neutral tones. However, if you do want to do a little more or include a fun theme for your studio newborn session, I love using fun props as well!

My extensive collection of backgrounds, baskets, bowls, crates, blankets, swaddles and wraps provides my photography clients with so many amazing options for their sessions! And if these photos aren’t enough to give you baby fever, I don’t know what is. But seriously, there are so many great pieces in my studio collection that it was hard to choose which ones to use! Let’s take a look …

1116 Looking Up Photography1115 Looking Up Photography

I put together a few little basin and basket scenes with different accessories. This gray setup was perfectly cozy, using a more open knit, super soft baby blanket in a soft gray with a subtle pattern, and the cutest sleepy subject. I put a thick, chunky, woven blanket into a farmhouse style basin and added a softly textured white backdrop. These images will be a perfect fit for almost anywhere in the family’s home!

1112 Looking Up Photography

Driftwood is always a good idea! I love the modern aspect this basket brings to a session – it gives such a fun shape to photos! These layered baby blue blankets are great in it also. As a newborn photographer, you can’t ever have enough baby blankets.

1059 Looking Up Photography

These large knit blankets are soooo soft and soooo cuddly! They are a newborn session must.

1080 Looking Up Photography

Another set of amazing portraits! I fell in love with this baby blue collection the minute I saw it from the back of my camera – beautiful for a boy or girl saying, “I’m new here”. How adorable are these images? I added several layers to complete the look. Such great photos of new baby Ezra I know mom and dad will treasure!

1092 Looking Up Photography

The photo of Ezra’s feet was requested specifically by Sarah and it really did make the most adorable picture.

0995 Looking Up Photography

If you’re up for photos with baby, I can tell you that moms almost always love how the images of them with their new bundles of joy turn out! Of course, this mama is particularly gorgeous. Would you believe she doesn’t think she’s photogenic? Crazy, I say. Of course, having a professional photographer photograph you is always a great investment.

I can’t think of anything that will put a bigger smile on the faces of grandparents! So stinking cute. And in the future, baby Ezra will be able to look back on these pictures of him with his mom!

1012 Looking Up Photography

More great images are these with dad. Trust me, you’ll want these in the future! From the baby stage to toddlerhood and beyond, children love to look at photos of themselves with their parents. For growing families, pictures are something you can’t ever have enough of!

Now, if you REALLY want to win a “Best Gift” award from a set of new parents, a studio newborn session will do the trick. I mean, isn’t this everything you could want? It’s a beautiful time for any couple.

So many amazing images from this session!

Merritt – A Studio Session at Three Weeks

I was so excited to shoot this last-minute newborn session in Greenwich, Connecticut at the Looking Up Photography studio. This family contacted me a couple of weeks after baby was born. They came to me because Merritt is their third child and they realized that they hadn’t commissioned newborn portraits for their other two children. They wanted to be sure Merritt had imagery to celebrate his birth, his natural sweetness as a newborn, and also his unique appearance. They contacted me and we captured Merritt’s newborn imagery all over the course of a week. Although I always recommend reaching out to me as soon as possible, when you’re expecting to welcome a new baby into your home, I love accommodating these sessions when I am able to. With any luck, we get perfect, sleepy poses with access to all of my props, swaddles, newborn outfits, and accessories … and … we can usually capture baby when they’re a little more alert. Eyes-open shots sometimes become some of my favorites, and they’re always beautiful!

Perfect Merritt. Alert and so very interested in what’s happening around him.

0034 Looking Up Photography

We got to capture a variety of setups. Here is sweet Merritt modeling one of my favorite caps. Just look at those tiny details. I also love how it contrasts with the chunky knit of the blanket he’s snoozing on.

0064 Looking Up Photography0076 Looking Up Photography0091 Looking Up Photography0095 Looking Up Photography

I love it when I’m able to get so much variety out of my setups. Many times, I focus on 2-3 prop displays and am able to produce a full and diverse gallery from those looks. I have been known to photograph from dozens of angles simply because I am especially inspired by the props or because my little subjects are so captivating.

Thank you, baby Merritt, for a fabulous session. You were a dream!

Ever | Newborn and Two Month Studio Newborn Sessions

The beautiful thing about studio newborn photography is that family’s session is unique. There’s no “one size fits all” session for my clients. That’s why I love thinking creatively about my studio newborn sessions. A studio newborn session with Looking Up Photography is built to encourage family bonding and even imagination. From crowns for a prince to literal feather beds, my goal is to create a dream world, and to capture those memories to be enjoyed for years to come. That’s what I did with the “B” family. I had such a blast photographing them.

Adventures in Family Newborn Photography

This family newborn session took place at my studio in Greenwich, Connecticut, the Looking Up Photography studio. Because each member of the B family has such unique personalities, I wanted to make sure that their images were as unique as they are!

I pulled together two very special shoots for this family – one for newborn images, and one at Ever’s two-month mark. The resulting photos were stunning and really capture their love for each other!

Making Photo Memories

Both sessions were full of family moments of jokes, singing, wrestling, laughs, and more. But what’s more important is that we made memories during these studio sessions. It was a beautiful experience for all of us. And, best of all, it’s captured in beautiful photographs to be enjoyed for years to come.

Judah’s Studio Newborn Session

If you’re expecting a baby, or already a parent and looking for a newborn, maternity, or family photographer, I would love to work with you to create images you’ll love for a lifetime. You can also give sessions with me as a gift, which is exactly what my friend Susan Isaak did. Susan is a real estate salesperson in town, and she purchased a newborn session as a gift for her clients. What a gift!

As a professional newborn photographer, my goal is, of course, to have a baby who sleeps through the duration of the session! I prep my clients in detail before their session. Partners can switch off this ‘duty’ while the other gets ready for the session. Parents can also try to feed the baby 30-45 minutes before their session time, so we’re almost guaranteed that there will be a good diaper change before the session! If mom is breastfeeding, it’s best to avoid drinks and food that can give baby gas before session time.

Even if parents follow this advice perfectly, every now and then I’ll have a baby who has a harder time getting settled. As a professional newborn photographer, you know I have a few tools and tricks I use to help settle baby. Still, there’s always a chance that the baby just doesn’t want to sleep. In those cases my job is to put parents at ease so that we can all roll with the punches and I can deliver an absolutely beautiful final gallery. Whether baby is asleep or awake, my goal is always to keep everyone happy.

An awake newborn was not my experience with Judah, who was just the most perfect little subject. I’m pretty sure he was asleep the whole time!

Judah loved to stretch, and wiggle his arms and toes out of the swaddles, which made for some absolutely adorable images. It also made my job of snapping photos of his little toes that much easier!

Danielle and Carl were incredibly calm and had a go-with-the-flow attitude. I loved working with this precious family!

The Next Generation – Riker’s Connecticut Newborn Session

With so much space travel news happening lately, I thought it fitting to share this session, in honor of The Final Frontier! And of course, it’s a studio newborn session. Once I photograph a session in my Greenwich, Connecticut studio space, I find it hard to forget about for awhile! I guess I’m going to have to face it – my professional life revolves around miniature humans and, well, I’m here for it. Follow me into the Great Beyond because this is one studio newborn session that will be sure to put a smile on your face. An out-of-this-world smile, if I may say so.

0832 Looking Up Photography0839 Looking Up Photography

Let’s start with Riker’s solo images, shall we? My clients always come up with the most amazing baby names and Riker was no exception. How adorable is his Star Trek: The Next Generation inspired name? And what kid wouldn’t want to tell their friends that they’re named after Captain Picard’s first officer?! I think I can say I fully endorse a solid, fandom-inspired name! Yes!

0861 Looking Up Photography0882 Looking Up Photography0783 Looking Up Photography0810 Looking Up Photography0714 Looking Up Photography

This was such a fun setup, and so simple and contemporary per mom’s wishes. I love that Erica took this as an opportunity to update their family photos, and also to get some solo pictures of big brother Wyatt. Over the past year, so many families just didn’t have the time or opportunity to update their family portraits. Needless to say, Erica and David are big Star Trek fans and, as I mentioned above, used Star Trek: The Next Generation as the inspiration for Riker’s name! I am feeling so inspired to go search for all the cute “geeky” baby names now. What a wonderful way to show off your family’s personality!

Of course, the lighting in my studio didn’t disappoint. I’m obsessed with how wonderfully this space performs for me, for each and every session. It is absolutely wonderful! And I love the fawny backdrop I used for that first set of images, that went along with mom’s contemporary décor and added a pop of texture to Riker’s newborn gallery.

0909 Looking Up Photography0689 Looking Up Photography

The studio lighting created the perfect environment for some family newborn pictures. I know I say that all the time, but it’s true! Those tones are so gorgeous and I adore them.

Fun in the Studio with a Green Newborn Session for Finn

I love when my clients come back to me for another session – there’s nothing better than setting up for a studio newborn session with a sense of familiarity! In this case, I had previously photographed Finn’s big sister Camilla. I mean, it doesn’t get better than that! According to mom, “It was perfect!”, so they took advantage of that feeling and booked a newborn session for their newest addition, Finn. Finn was quite sleepy, of course, for his debut session, and I photographed him with green and cream accents per mom’s request. A day in the studio, and tons of fun, and I’m sharing a selection of the images with you!

Isn’t this setup spectacular? I enlisted the assistance of a digital feather backdrop to get that terrific texture in a few of Finn’s gallery images. Modern farmhouse accessories along with that wonderfully creamy hue helped it all come together perfectly. I can always count on discovering something new to love about each and every studio newborn session in my Greenwich, Connecticut photography studio space.

A Fresh, Twin Newborn Session with Mallory and Jack

I don’t know about you, but spring has to be one of my favorite seasons for newborn sessions! I am constantly hosting families in my studio throughout this season, as well as enjoying the longer days with my own family. I always love finding fun props and colors to use in my studio newborn sessions. There’s just something about the hues and accessories featured in this session that remind me of everything great spring has to offer!

Get ready to see how I used my studio collection by adding soft colors, vibrant patters, and a stunning, cream-colored collection to create the perfect twin setup.

You can see big brother Nicholas’ session here.

0622 Looking Up Photography

I always like to start off my newborn sessions with lovely posed portraits, and if I may say so, these twin images take the cake! I was inspired by the fresh start spring brings each year – but I was especially feeling that deeply, this year. When I think of spring, I think of new beginnings. I must say, these photographs are all styled beautifully!

This space in my studio is always perfectly lit thanks to a large window, and it creates the perfect nook for family portraits! For the family photos, I used a large, vintage looking, tufted chaise. It kind of felt like we were in the French countryside!

0478 Looking Up Photography

With those gorgeous smiles, I needed no embellishment! Right away I knew that simple would be best. My wonderful ‘models’ took care of the rest! I set the family naturally on the chaise, and gave small bits of direction for the most natural results. I love these images because they are so versatile and will display beautifully anywhere in Tara and Jon’s home.

I finished my family newborn session with a special request from mom to include Hannah Bear in a few images. For studio newborn sessions, I love accommodating special requests when I can; they’re always incredibly special, and the Hannah Bear photos turned out wonderfully!

Let’s Make Memories and Celebrate with Jack’s Calming Newborn Session

Something I will always strive to instill in my clients is a love for capturing memories. When choosing a photographer, I know that their focus is typically more practical. Obviously, competitive pricing and my skills as a professional are important to me, but I mainly want my clients to have fun and make memories. Even as a professional photographer, I love doing sessions with my own family as frequently as possible and (for now) my family continues to love this time together, too! So, if you’ve decided it’s time for a session with me, and it’s something you’ve been wanting to do for awhile, know that it will be a crowd-pleaser among children and adults alike!

Peruse this calming newborn session and let me encourage you to celebrate with your own booking. I have all the tips and tricks in my professional tool kit to make it a success.

0691 Looking Up Photography

As always, gotta have that cute baby-in-a-basket image! A driftwood basket makes for the prettiest details. I am lucky enough to have a full closet of differently colored blankets and swaddles. This selection is always cleaned to newborn safety standards and ready for fun with my clients, with all of these amazing beauties to use.

0721 Looking Up Photography

How adorable are folded baby hands, and peeking baby toes?! Wait until you see the rest of these photographs.

0745 Looking Up Photography

I enlisted the ‘help’ of my trusty rustic crate to assist me in creating a few photos. This prop is a ‘need’ for any simple and classic newborn session.

0753 Looking Up Photography0780 Looking Up Photography

What do you think of this studio setup? I think of one thing – zen! Mom and dad requested blue and gray tones only so I went all in on that! The star is, of course, my new friend Jack. Aren’t the images of him with his eyes open amazing? I love all of the colors and textures involved in this session. Then there are this cutie’s big eyes!

0805 Looking Up Photography0615 Looking Up Photography

I don’t know where to start with Morgan and Brian! As a family, there was just so much beauty to capture! Not only are they the most enthusiastic new parents, but aren’t they adorable? They were enamored in the sweetest way with Jack and I think they are such a fun new family.
